Cultivar: K18 (origin - Israel)

 

K18 was the breeding code for this cultivar: it is one of the few common olive trees to be a deliberate and modern cross (Kadesh is also a product of the same Israeli breeding program).  It is used for green and black table olives, Greek style in brine, and occasionally for oil.  When processed in brine, K18 (Barnea) is said to have a granular flesh.  Freestone.

These two trees are not exactly thriving in Oregon, but of course at least they are still living!
