Cultivar: Moraiolo (origin - Tuscany, Italy)
Moraiolo is commonly used with Leccino, Frantoio and other Tuscan cultivars to make Tuscan style olive oils. In Italy it is considered particularly suitable for windy hillsides.
So far, our young Moraiolo trees are not amongst the best performers. Here is a typical one, fall planted in 2008. The last two winters have reduced it in size by at least half. On the other hand, the mortality rate for Moraiolo is not particularly high. Hang in there, guys!
