Cultivar: Santa Caterina (origin - Italy)

 

Not recommended.  Try as I might to make excuses for Santa Caterina, it has proven to be just a little too susceptible to cold winter conditions here.  Of the original ten planted in 2006, only three are still alive (the worst results of any of those original cultivars).  These five made it through the winter of '08-'09, but died as a result of the winter of '09-'10.

For you risk takers: if you can get Santa Caterina established well in the ground, it might just be the cat's meow.  Of the few we have remaining in the ground, they appear to have shrugged off the December 2009 radiative freezing with nary a shiver.
